Hi Tim,
Welcome to Ca., where your utility bill will exceed the one you had in
(Canada?), even if you were running electric heat there. I'm about to build a
stroker as well, though definitely a low buck version (thank you e-Bay), and
am facing alot of the questions I'm sure you've had. If you've got upgraded
maincap bolts, I think the girdle would be overkill if this is a street
engine. So much of what I've read in mag articles and web-site blurb allows
for nitrous and blowers at the top end and serious weekend straightline
racing. But if you do opt for the girdle, make sure it's designed for a
350ish stroker. If it's not, you'll spend time/bucks on clearancing it a
bunch and perhaps end up with the strength compromised anyway.
I'd be interested to know if you ended up with a rod/piston combo that
puts the wrist pin access into the oil ring. My biggest dilemma now is
whether to go with a 5.4 rod (cheap, but requires the above setup) or spend
the bucks for a 5.315 (expensive and requires expensive matching pistons, but
misses the oil ring).
