To add to the fray: Enof, you should calibrate the tach at medium RPM, not idle. With the way the tach works (rebuilt or not) there is only one possible calibration point, and everywhere else what you get is a function of the tach's overall balance and bearing condition. In any case, calibration at idle is the most likely to give wildly inaccurate readings everywhere else. Make sure that the RPM reference you're using is known good at the calibration RPM.
