In a variation of using a funnel and 1/4 inch tubing to insert 90
grade lubricant, instead of taking the whole thing apart, I tried another
solution. When my rubber boots began leaking a bit. I figured that if I would
open the hose clamps at the end and insert the lubricant with a hypodermic
needle; that would do the job - slowly but simply, without taking the whole
thing apart.
I went to my local drug store and ordered a hypodermic needle outfit
but a pharmacist friend told me that if I bought it, he would have to report
it to the local police (and presumably the ATF, the FBI, the CIA and all
points) that I was a possible drug user. So, I went next door to the hardware
store and bought a simple glue injector which does the same thing. It worked
and the rack and pinion, now in the safe hands of son Eric in Denver
continues to direct the car right or left, as desired.
