Having received good advice from the list before, I would welcome any
comments on a problem I may have with my Holleys.
In my Tiger which I have owned for the past year, I have a standard 260
which has had a 2bbl Holley fitted. It always fired up immediately (except
for battery/solenoid failure, I'm sure you've been there!!) until it ran
very, very, very hot one day (230+). Next time (two weeks later) it took
forever to start, and I just ran it a short way (5miles, to fill up with
leaded). The next run (next day) it started ok in the morning and ran 200 -
210 going on an 80 mile trip. Started ok to come home, but ran very, very
hot (210 - 230). Next start, was again along wait until it fired. It has not
run that hot again, and has not been quite that difficult to start, but has
not started immediately, or idled until warm. Petrol consumption has been
poor, even allowing for my driving and the number of times I warm it up in
the garage when working on it. Nearer 15 - 17 mpg rather than 18 - 20 mpg.
When I took the plugs out they were burnt black so it is running rich.
Change of plugs and it started on the button and idled ok. Does this sound
like just a carb tuning problem or are there likely to be darker forces at
work, like a broken auto choke?
