Hi Rick,
If you're bent on originality then there's little to do except get a
replacement wiring loom from Rick or Curt, along with a new fusebox.

If you think you can do better than ol' Joe (and who can't?) then there are
quite a few options open to you. Painless Wiring (I don't have their website
handy but I think it's http://www.painlesswiring.com) make multifuse panels
and wiring kits to get you started. Despite what they say, wiring is never
painless - the more time you spend planning things out the better it will go
when you're under the dash. At the autowreckers I recently picked up an
8-fuse block out of a '75 Toyota Celica (similar pieces can be found inside
'71-74 Corollas, etc.), which holds Buss type round fuses, has spade lugs on
the back, and a nice pair of bolt hole flanges on each end, and I plan to
mount this under the dash and to rewire things a little better.

Relays: You can take the load off those Lucas switches by relaying the
headlight and horn circuits. Fuse everything at about double the nominal
current.

Good luck,

Theo Smit

Well folks, I have now learned about the virtues of in-line fuses on Lucas
electrical systems...THE HARD WAY.

So, I find myself in need of a wiring harness. Has anyone here on the list
replaced theirs recently? If so, I could really use some advice on whose to
buy and what to ask for (I have an early Mk 1), as well as any tricks or
gotchas to be aware of. Also, are there any associated things I ought to
do/replace while I am at it?

Learn from my ineptitude/laziness, gang, and protect your wiring ASAP (my
particular recommendations are for the headlamp and blower circuits).

Thanks for the bandwidth.

Rick
