As Federal Mogul trades on the DOW independently as FMO, I'm pretty sure
they are an independent company. The gasket making division is here in
Blacksburg, and I'm pretty sure I would hear of any change of
ownership.....

The truth of the matter is either:
1) TRW fills out it's supply line with parts they do not make to other good
manufacturers, like Federal Mogul. TRW is a VERY large company. Their
automotive line makes much of the big stuff, like complete power steering
units
and such heavy pieces, and may, indeed "farm out" the little stuff. They
do,
however, still make the pistons, which you would want if you were not into
custom racing stuff.
2) TRW could own Federal Mogul.
I am a stock-holder, but just ditched the annual report, or I'd let you
know
the subsidiaries.
In any event, Federal Mogul is good equipment.
