Derek,
Regarding the longer pushrods, these are not a requirement of the 351W
heads per se but only needed because the valves used with the 351W heads
had longer stems. If you use the standard length 289 or aftermarket valves
you can use the standard length push rods, which provides much needed
clearance in the Tiger installation. While the 351W heads are good, I would
suggest you seriously consider Edelbrock or TFS aluminum heads. By the time
you do all the work needed on the 351W heads, the money and effort will
surpass either of these choices, plus aluminum heads will save a bunch of
weight. You should run a little more compression with aluminum heads to
compensate their greater heat conductivity; maybe a full point more
compression.
