I've never owned a Corvette, but have driven a couple. One thing to keep in
mind is that, if I'm not mistaken, the pre-63 cars used 1940's tech Chevy
front suspension. In conjunction with a weakly located, live rear axle don't
expect nimble handling or much ultimate grip. The vintage race prepared '57
fuelie I drove handled quite a bit like a truck.
Tigers are a bit better in the handling department, but still suffer from
poor front end geometry and "parts bin" engineering. You can make a Tiger
handle very well in terms of autocross-type performance (I ran second in
total points in our local semi-pro autocross F-stock class in '94 vs. 1LE
Camaros and Cobra Mustangs), but this will come at a great expense to on the
road comfort, as you need to stiffen things up substantially.
As far as straight line performance goes, in their basic configurations (mild
283 vs. mild 260) the cars will be very similar. Of course, the sky is the
limit as far as upgrading power capability.
All in all, two very different cars. I would characterize the Corvette as
more of a boulevard cruiser and the Tiger as more of a GT in stock
configurations, with the Tiger having a decided edge if modifications are in
the long term plans.
Just my two cents-
Mike
