Just a small request to all of the Tiger parts vendors out there who
lurk in the cyber-hallways:
I have noticed by some posts a familiar angst which I myself have
experienced during the restoration of my car which prompts this post.
Not all of us are mechanically inclined or have the financial
where-withal to employ body, interior, and/or mechanic specialists to
assist us with installing either new toys or replacement parts on our
cars. Many times during my cars restoration, I have purchased a part
which was fair priced (whatever that means), delivered in a timely
fashion (which I appreciated), only to find the part and nothing else.
No instructions, no mention of any additional bolts, nuts, etc. needed.
Only the part in a box. It would be really, really helpful, if you
guys, with the obvious knowledge of how to install the darned thing, to
just take the time to write down a few simple instructions for us
mechanically challenged.
Additionally, why not include the nuts and bolts to put the part on? I
wouldn't mind paying a couple extra bucks so I don't have to run down to
the hardware store. Typically, if someone is replacing a part nowadays
on a 30+ year old car, and aren't worried about concours originality,
would like to have new bolts, nuts or screws that won't rust up. At the
very least, just tell me what hardware I need to buy.
I realize that this (for the vendor) is a mild annoyance to do, but the
Tiger community is a fairly small and tightly knit one (except for a few
frayed patches - see some earlier posts) and I for one have noticed
helping each other out is part of the comraderie. Providing the parts
to keep our cars on the road is a great service to us all and I thank
you. Without that help, many of us would not even be able to drive our
cars.
The more Tigers are on the road, the more fun for us all.
