Not the best newsletter I've ever read, I'll grant you that.
But, as a beer-guzzling Sunbeam owner myself, I just didn't have a
problem with the cover photo. :^)
Amidst your concerns about the newsletter content, I think your
post touched upon a deep truth. The regional clubs are a bit thin on
resources as they stand, and I'd imagine other marques, while having
their own problems, avoid this issue. Rootes enthusiasts as a group are
enough in number to support one club, and that's about it. TE/AE puts
out a newsletter that is improving with each issue, but still lacks
enough content to fill it out. STOA's I can only guess about, I never
did join. Add it all up, however, and resources are sufficient for one
organization, national in scope. Not just the newsletter, either; how
about administration? Like finding enough people willing to be officers,
for instance. Or the expenses involved in the annual club gathering.
Yes, I'd support amalgamation of the various entities into a
Rootes Club of America, or whatever. Then we could have one United that
was, well, united. Then fill in with regional meets like SOS. Get one
newsletter, worth reading. Pay one membership renewal. Grouse about one
group of elected officers. Have everybody on one published roster (more
savings). This would probably mean some degree of domination by the
So-Cal crowd because there are so many of them, but that's life, we
cannot make half of the move to Iowa.
Something to think about at SUNI this year, eh? My hat's off to
those who started the clubs all those years ago, but it's not 1973
anymore. Let's pool resources.
Jan, if you drop out, you won't be in a position to fix the
problems. I hope you (and Dale) feel better soon.
A parting thought: is this List draining the Tiger community of
so much of the question-and-answer communication that would otherwise be
handled in the newsletters that it's part of the problem?
IMHO, YMMV, etc.
