I live in Vermont which, of course, borders Canada. We have auctions of
confiscated autos every 3-4 mopnths or so. The stuff being auctioned here is
almost always junk. I mean cars that are 4 to 10 yrs. old with either high
mileage or rusted or dented up. The auctions don't usually generate a lot of
interest. Most of the people who attend are people looking for cheap drivers.
Once in a great while something decent comes up but don't know who buys
these autos. There shouldn't be a charge to attend so I would suggest if
someone lived close enough and there was a good car available it might be a
good way to spend a day.
A WORD OF CAUTION If you are going to bid on a vehicle be sure that it's a
car that can be legally imported and registered in the US. Some of the cars
here are confiscated from Canadians and are foreign cars made for the
international market. They are not importable. The car must have a proper
"DOT" sticker (used to be on the driver's door jam). It must also have proper
EPA stickers (for pollution).
These were the standards in force in the middle 80's when I imported cars
