Oil Additives Are Great.
Everybody in the automotive engineering world knows this.
They reduce friction, prevent oil breakcown, prevent sludge
build-up, extend viscosity over wide temperature ranges, and
lots of other good things. That is why the SAE and the car
manufacturers have recommended a specific minimum
formulation of these additives, and strongly recommend using
motor oil products meeting these standards, at a minimum.
The lubrication manufacturers have taken part in these tests
and comply by producing oil with these additives already in
them. These products are what is for sale on your
supplier's shelves in containers labeled MOTOR OIL.
Any ADDITIONAL additives are either already in the motor, or
will do no good, if not harm. Some are mostly kerosene,
which thins the oil for no good reason. Others contain
small teflon particles that do NOT bond to anything, but can
clog your filter or small oil passages.
The best recommendation is to follow the manufacturer's
recommendation. Use the latest grade of high performance
motor oil. Let your engine idle for about 15-20 seconds at
initial start up, before going anywhere. Change your oil
and filter at recommended intervals, depending upon
driving. Normal driving, 3,000 miles or 90 days, whicher
comes first. Severe driving, hot, short trips, pulling
loads, every 1,000 miles. This is cheap protection, and the
best advice on lubrication you are ever going to get. And
it's not from me, just through me.
Or, go squeeze a snake until you've got a gallon of juice.
Then either sell it, and buy real motor oil, or drink it
with grain alcohol. But, don't put it into your engine.
