****WARNING***** THIS IS DRIVEL ***** LITTLE OR NO TECH CONTENT ****
Though it is rare for me, I will attempt to keep this brief.
While out running some errands in the Tiger on Saturday, I happened to pull
up next to this old, white piece of crap looking VW Rabbit with a NUESPEED
sticker on his back window. I casually glanced left at the driver who was
about 14 years old with a shaved head and wrap around aluminum sunglasses.
I must be getting old as my first thought was a tour of duty with Uncle
Sam's Misguided Children would certainly straighten this fellow out. Making
eye contact, I smiled casually.
Almost instantly, he frowned and began revving his engine.....it really
sounded awful; very much like a broken gas powered washing machine from the
early 1930's. Feeling a bit juvenile myself that afternoon, I responded in
kind by revving my Tiger. Unfortunately, this did not have the desired
affect, as the look on his face changed from disgust to out right rage.
Once again, this lowered my mental as well as intellectual age far lower
than physical age....seriously, I was bordering on hitting negative numbers.
When the light changed, I popped the clutch and summarily lit up the tires
loosing about a half inch of rubber and creating a lot of smoke. (gotta
love a posi !) My young friend had his windows open. I left him in the
smoke. When I reached ten MPH over the speed limit, I slowed down to let him
catch up. He pulled in and slowed down right behind me. With that great
Rootes rear view mirror, I could see him seething and pounding his dash. At
the next light, he pulled off to the right and made a right turn, once again
revving his motor and squealing his wheels....shaking an angry fist at me
and my Tiger as he completed his turn.
Could it be he was upset because I just could not for the life of me wipe
the smile off my face?
Now before I get flamed, allow me to state this was REAL stupid behavior on
my part; and there is a portion of me that regrets my actions. I will try
to avoid such situations in the future. But damn, it was fun!
Guess that's one of the reasons we own Tigers.
