I, also, have a selfish motive. Mine has been screwed up for a few years
and I have just gotten used to using the tack. That system works fine for me

Well I just went and checked on what my speedo gear was made out of.The answer
is(drumroll please) Nylon!.It is a near white transluscent color that may have
been dyed somewhat grey/brown due to long exposure to gear lube.Spray cleaning
made no real difference in the color.There is also a metal ring that mostly
surrounds the base of the gear.It has 15 teeth. It is out of a Mk 1a with the
toploader Ford tranny.
