Andy-You can also get a main cap rail.  This is essentially a piece of steel 
which mounts on top (bottom of engine) of all five main caps.  Still-any 
289/302 
engine that raps 8000 rpm or less shouldn't fail in the main cap area.  
Personally, I would reccomend spend the $130 or 40 on a balance job.
