My personal preference is to lower the engine and transmission assembly
into place without the headers or engine mounts installed (using 2
upright beams and dual 2" x 8" lintels to support a chain falls). This
was done by hoisting the engine/trans to a height sufficient to roll the
car forward and alternating / coordinating the lowering of the trans
into the engine bay while continuing to pull the car under it. Some
forethought is required to get the correct hook placement on the lifting
chain in order to obtain the necessary engine/trans assembly hang angle
for installation. Once the engine is in the approximate mounting
position, install each side's header and engine mount frame bracket,
using a few header to cyl. head bolts as keepers, and then lower the
engine mount bracket between the tubes and bolt to frame while keeping
the engine/trans hanging on the hook. Keeping everything moveable,
install the engine mount and start the mount bolts. The assembly should
remain lightly supported in place to keep an unbinding, equilibrium
loading on the mounts and bolting until all bolts are tightened.
