All,
Tom Hall is correct in his statement of the relationship between Jeff
Cushing
(and Jan Harde for that matter) and myself. I'm sure many of you have been
able to read between the lines in our recent postings. But, although we
cannot agree on the amount of goose poop on the lawn at Eureka or who said
what about so and so's car, I do believe we at least generally agree on the
purposes/goals of the TAC program. It would seem though that Jeff and others
do not think TAC has gone far enough. Amazing, since most discussions in the
past on this subject were started by people who think that TAC has gone too
far. This is why STOA chose to take the middle road and only identify real
Tigers. Think about it, if we really wanted to create a list of Algers, we
wouldn't be setting up booths at Tigers Uniteds.
A few have made comparisons between Norm Miller's Registry and TAC's
Authenticated Tiger list; claiming one to be better than the other. Well, I
claim them to be quite different. Sure, as Norm would point out, one main
difference is that the Registry is published; the TAC list is only on the
Web. But there is another main difference, the information on the TAC list
is
gathered by groups of three trained inspectors inspecting each car. And this
has been done for each Tiger on the list. Obviously, this takes a lot of
time, money, devoted inspectors, and public support, therefore limiting the
scope of our program.
On the other hand, Norm's INTERNATIONAL Registry cannot claim this same
level
of accurracy. I am a stong supporter of the Registry and fully vouch for
Norm's expertise in identifying Algers and anything else pertaining to
Tigers, but I also realize there is no way he could possibly have first hand
knowledge of all the cars in his Registry. As Mr. Williamson has pointed out
numerous times, this leaves open the possibility for inaccuracies being
added
to the Registry. Certainly, uninformed persons might be calling Norm to
report conversions when they have little or no knowledge of how to identify
one. Conversely, I can imagine a substantial number of owners notifying
Norman of the existance of their vehicles, but failing to mention that their
car is a fact an Alpine conversion. All and all, Mr. Miller does provide
the
best and most accurate information he can considering his sources.
As to Mr. Cushing's suggestion that TAC or someone publish a manual
providing infomation on how to identify an Alger. Well, NO WAY. Then
everyone
would have an easy step by step manual on how to make an Alpine conversion.
Thats kind of like holding the the door of the chicken coup open for the
fox.
Jeff, What were you thinking?
