Doug,

Brake light switches, operating off hydraulic lines, have diaphragms
between the fluid and the switches. The very high pressure moves the
diaphragm to close electrical contacts in a separate compartment that
does not "see" hydraulic fluid. No electrical energy involved, just
mechanical. This story is a myth.

However, I wouldn't sleep under High Tension electrical power lines!
They may fall on you! {8->
