I saw the live broadcast on the Speedvision cable channel on Friday. Tom
started on the outside of the front row next to a tube frame,
factory-sponsored "Toyota Celica" in the GT-2 class. Other notable entries
were a Ferrari 308 a 65 Jag, and a couple of Porsches. He got a good start
and led the race for about 8-10 laps. The ignorant SPV announcers kept
ragging on the Tiger, saying that it was not well balanced and only based
on the production car while the second place, special-built "Toyota" was
"superior"- while the Tiger was comfortably ahead!
Tom's Tiger just lost power on the back part of the circuit and pulled off
with no apparent smoke or damage. SPV never came back to Tom to find out
what caused the problem.
The Special "Toyota" eventually won the race. ( But is it a Toyota? )
