Chris:
A "Horch" was a large German touring car, competing with Mercedes in the
20-30's. It was made by a division of Auto Union, now known as "Audi",
which built some astonishing 12 cyl. rear engine pre-war Formula 1 race
cars that dominated pre-war racing.
When I owned an Alpine, this "running on", as the British called it, was
caused by hot spots in the cylinder, like maybe a red-hot exhaust valve,
or a carboned up spark plug. This is not good for the engine, and could
result in permanent damage, or a series of blown head gaskets. Please
don't leave it in this condition.
If you find an answer on mirrors, let me know. I am especially
interested in the early small curved mirror, either NOS or very good
condition, or a re-build solution.
