Jim,

Yes, the resistor is to limit voltage to the 9 volt coil. It only uses
12 volts during start-up. A short term overload. The "breakers", be they
points or electronic, really don't care if they are switching 9 volts or
12 volts (apparently handled by the solenoid). I believe (but don't
count on it) that the "hot" after market coils are 12 volt devices and
do not want the dropping resistor, but the installation instructions
should clear that up. Now the English system is a lot clearer. They are
all 12 volt coils, and those made by Lucas (well, you know). Turns out
some of the HOT Blue Bosch coils are made in Mexico, and although they
are blue, they are not the "Blue" bosch coils. Anyway, that's what Bosch
told Jay. Go figger.
