If you are going to replace the clock with something else, consider a voltmeter.
I've got both in my Tiger, and was able to almost instantly diagnose when my
regulator died. Of course, I'm a EE and dig that sort of stuff. Or maybe a
fuel pressure gauge, so you can tell when (not if) the pump quits?
