This is a reminder for the folks in the New England area that the big
vintage festival at Lime Rock is coming up over the Labor Day weekend.
There will be racing on Saturday and Monday, and a giant concours on
Sunday, which usually has a special section for Shelby related stuff.
Though I understand it wasn't there the last couple years, Syd
Silverman has, in the past, raced his Lister Tiger. Though not
intended as a British festival, I'll bet at least half the cars
running have some sort of British connection.
A giant flea market runs all weekend, where Sunbeam parts are not
unknown.
The variety of cars racing there, and on display, is truly incredible.
And the vintage racers are always more willing to talk to you than
the high priced pro racers in IMSA, CART or whatever. Example: One
year I asked a Bugatti racer why his car was unpainted, rather than
the traditional blue. He walked me over to the car, and showed me how
the paint would have covered all of the layout scribe marks on the
sheet metal, left by the Bugatti factory mechanics way back when.
It's a fun event, and I hope to see you there!
