I just got back from a business trip to Germany, but I managed to
squeeze a lot of fun stuff into it.
I visited the French National Car Museum in Mulhouse (just cross the
German border). Among many other things, they have the largest
collection of Bugatti cars in the world, including 2 Royales. There are
thousands of other cars as well, including a bunch of famous race cars.
The only british cars were a bunch of Rolls and one XKE.
I also visited the Autotechnik museums in Speyer and in Sensheim.
Thousands of cars and motorcycles, plus some motorcycles trains and
aircraft. In Speyer, they even have an actual U-boat you can wander
through! In Sensheim, they have a large collection of American iron
from the 50's and 60's. Both museums have Imax theaters, and the one at
Speyer is 3-D.
Last, but by no means least, I got to see the time trials and the Gran
Prix race at Hockenheim. The museum at the track is also interesting.
It's small, but the cars and motorcycles there are unique. When was
the lasttime you saw Fangio's Mercedes 300SLR?
If anybody is interested in more details, just let me know!
