I must say that I'm glad to be writing this, and not dead on the road. I
just had the crap scared out of me. I had just gassed up the Tiger, and
pulled out of the station when the left front tire collapsed into the
fender and valance, mangled beyond repair. Five min. later, and I would
have been zipping down interstate rt. 95. I'm shaking thinking about that,
and the fact that I was out on the highway last night with my 5 year old
son in the car.
I know your all thinking "Ahhh, exploding ball joint!", but here's the
really frightening part. All the joints are still intact. The lower fulcrum
pin sheared itself in half at the rear mounting point. The bolts and
bracket are still in place on the crossmember! The metal is sheared
clean!!!
Thirty year old brit. part, you ask? Nope, this is a part that was
purchased from one of our leading parts suppliers! It only has 3 summers
use on it. I don't think this fulcrum pin has 10,000 mi. on it. This is a
purely street driven car. It's never raced or driven in the winter. If ANY
of you have purchased these reproduction lower fulcrum pins STOP DRIVING
YOUR SUNBEAM NOW!!!! YOUR LIFE IS AT STAKE!!!
I'm going to contact the vender that I bought these fulcrum pins from and
inform him that he's got a real serious problem on his hands. I know he's
just reselling a part, but it's got to be made clear that these parts are
lethally defective. I hope he's apreciative of the fact that he is talking
to me, not my widow and her lawyer.
Please, get under your car and check for cracks, if your using this piece.
I don't want to be reading any obituaries on this screen! pjb and the
mangled b3820000909.
