<< All;
-A few months ago, knowing what the AC air cleaner assemblies sell
for, I contacted one of the sheet metal suppliers our company uses.
All I'm waiting for is: 1) a sample they can use for prototyping &
first-article "buy-off". This is a
completely safe, non-destructive use.
2) some idea of the market need of repro.
units-they would be exactly like the
originals
in form, fit, & function.
3) am I just p***ing in the wind...do the
Sunbeam
folks really want NOS, and not re-makes? If
the
market demand was there, and the selling
price
low enough ($100.00-to-$200.00), is this a
good
idea?
-Please let me know.

Phil:
My 2-cents says that NOS is the way to go (although I do not believe that NEW
old stock air cleaners exist for Tigers) and that reproduction pieces, no
matter how faithful, would not be attractive to the MAJORITY of Tiger
collectors. However, there is probably that minority who would be satisfied
with your units, and that may justify your making them up, but they who would
like them ought to share in the production costs up front (IMHO). For me, I
tend to feel about my car's parts the way the Italians feel about the
collosium - restore it to original FORM, but make it darned obvious where
the original stops and the fabrication starts. And since I do not have
unlimited funds for my car, I choose to leave the non-stock 4bbl and air
cleaner there until I run into a reasonably priced original piece.
OK, maybe that was 4 cents worth.
