Dial-a-Pump, anyone? Hmmm, mebbe even have it stay off until
temp comes up, control temp electrically (no Lucas parts, please)
instead of mechanically w/a thermostat, which I have a habit of
installing backwards anyway. :-(

The problem here is that the water flows too fast through the radiator to get
the heat transfered from the water, so waiting until the temp goes up would
be counterproductive. As for a rheostat - not knowing the control design of
the unit, one cannot just assume that a variable resistance in the circuit
would be the correct solution, but I agree that for a simple motor it seems
like a good idea.
Oh, and I agree that the Sunbeam Survivor is a good investment.
