I previously posted what I thought was an authoritive note on windshield
installation, based on my own experience. I have since been corrected,
so in order to not mislead anyone who may rely on my previous posting, I
better post the correction.
Previously, I stated that the dash pad does not extend under the windshield.
My pad is very thick, and that puppy just wouldn't fit. However, I have
learned
from someone who has parted out about a number of Alpines/Tigers
(rustbuckets, mostly) that the pad is *always* under the windshield. This
makes sense when you consider the effect of heat and humidity on a pad might
might tend to make it curl or wrinkle if the windshild side were not secured.
What is worth noting is the apparent difference between the original pad
and the repro pads. On the original pads, the foam *did not* extend
under the windshield, just the fabric. My limited experience with repro
pads is the fabric is completed mated to the foam. This leaves the following
choices:
1) trim the pad edge so it doesn't fit under the windshield (and hope the
glue keeps the pad from warping),
2) scrape the foam off the pad in an attempt to replicate the original pad,
or
3) find a repro pad which is made correctly. They may be out there.

I just replaced the too-stiff front CAT coil springs with the slightly
stiffer than stock (but still very streetable) Pro-Prep coils. What an
improvement--highly recommended. But now the soft Spax shock settings that
were spot-on for the heavy duty coils seem too wimpy for the Pro-Preps. Well,
we've got 14 possibilities & ultimately its personal preference, but I'm
still fishing for learned advice. What do you recommend? BTW, if you
overshoot the ideal adjustment, can you just back up, or do you need to go
through the entire 14 adjustment sequence?
