I've been in contact with Maynard Ferguson's management the last few days.
Following a successful gig at the Blue Note in New York, and the recording
of MFHorn 7 at Tony Bennett's studio in NJ, Maynard started feeling ill.
Over the weekend, he saw his doctor, and was told that certain toxin levels
were up. A tumor on his liver was found. A biopsy was done, but his kidneys
were already shutting down.
Maynard passed away last night.
Gabriel's playing the 2nd chair trumpet part in heaven now, and Maynard's
got the lead book (up an octave).
I am going to miss him.
