OK, whos going to Road America?
In a break with tradition, I actually already started preparing my car weeks
in advance of the event. Carb & exhaust issues thwarted my track time at
Grattan, and Im determined to solve those issues.
(Gary, your carbs are boxed, and ready to hit UPS.)
I yanked the 40 DCOE Weber off of Red Arse, and am fitting it to Redrum for
ELVF, while I go through all my SUs and get 2 sets rebuilt and race ready
for next year. I have NO clue about jet sizes, etc., and will be using Roger
Menadues method of tuning. He used to mark off a = mile of road, and go out
with a stop watch after each tuning change to test the effectiveness. Out
here at the Dream Farm, the blocks are a mile long, and the bovine doesnt
seem to mind the noise.
Ive been fighting exhaust issues well let me rephrase that. Ive been
fighting exhaust issues at Grattan. Most headers available now are for
1275s. and are 2 taller vertically than the correct fit for a 948. (1275s
are taller). Since I have my back up motor in the car, and its not quite up
to the spec of my normal engine, Ive considered my normal header might be
too large of a bore. I found a really nice coated smaller bore LCB header in
my stash. Unfortunately, it too is for a 1275. In a scene out of Biker
Build Off, Ive been Sawzalling pipes, and welding them back together,
adding flanges, mounting points, etc., in an effort to build a bullet proof
system.
Ill bring a grille. Ill be in touch with Shirley to see what area we can
reserve for the Village.
