Quite some time ago I aded up the retail value of the equipment on my
desk at the U. Brand new Hewlett-Packard Motorola 68000 based workstation,
128 megs of RAM, 600 megs of disk, graphics acceleraor, etc. It totaled up
to about $130,000, or over three times the cost of the house we just bought.
Now one month's house payment will buy a new machine that is 100 times faster
than that first HP300 system.
Of course, I wish I had current computer equipment worth $130,000 on hand now,
so I could sell it. Then maybe I wouldn't be so bummed out about being broke
and out of work at Christmas time. Ba, humbug!
