So, here's the deal...
SOS '05 will be held at the new international headquarters of Team Thicko,
in beautiful Eldorado, WI.
In years past we've had this event at Peter Caldwell's (Peter the Parts
Pimp, or PPP as we like to call him) Worldwide Auto Parts (the best lever
shock rebuilders on the planet) in Madison, WI
This year, we're having it at my new place... about 10 miles north of Fond
du Lac. We've got a 6000 sq ft shop here, and hope to see this event well
attended. We're inspired by the OSHIT group that convenes out east and makes
member's car repairs a group effort.
Anyone's invited. We're looking for projects...we have a few lined up, but
need more. We're going to do some rust removal and sheet metal welding on
Larry "Fine" Daniel's Bugeye, and assembly of Terry "Tutone" Heffron's 1275.
I've got numerous other cars here we can line up, but we'd rather fix up
yours. Don't be shy. Got a project you're way over your ski tips on? Faced
with some mechanical issue you lack tools or skills to accomplish? Don't be
shy... get it on a trailer and get it over here.
We've had folks drive in, fly in, even walk in for this event... and usually
have 15+ people each day. It takes place on the Fri & Sat. after the US
Thanksgiving holiday. If you need a place to spend the night, we can
accommodate that too. We'll serve meals, drink, etc.
Mike Gigante from Australia has indicated he'll be here. Those of you
outside of driving distance might check into any cheap airfares, into
Milwaukee (or Oshkosh). Also, you could combine your trip to SOS with a stop
at the EAA Museum, which is just 6 miles up the road.
Those of you that can't attend, don't despair...the the Thicko tradition,
this is an "inclusive", rather than "exclusive" deal. We broadcast this via
a Web cam on Yahoo messenger. If you don't have the latest and greatest
version of the software, please get it. Add "Floundervision" to your contact
list. On the day of the event, you'll be invited to a conference with a web
cam, and 2 way audio. You can see us, and ask us questions in real time, and
we can respond. We have viewers worldwide. I'm doing some camera
experimentation over the next few weeks to optimize the whole process, so,
if you see us "on", say hey.
Many folks that can't make it have shipped various food items from their
local geographic locations, or their family's traditional Thanksgiving
menus. Past items include scrapple (uggh), clams, (ughh) Swedish pancakes
(yeah baby) and all sorts of other stuff.
This deal is free, and its fun. It's an example of Spridget fellowship and
cooperation. Don't be shy about offering your car up for sacri... I mean
letting us help you. Come on... you've got nothing going that Fri & Sat, and
even if you have guests in from out of town, you'll be ready to ditch them
(or bring them along).
Oh, one more thing... if you have a go kart... bring it along. We have an
1/8th mile paved track here, and my brother Don will be bringing a variety
of his vast collection of vintage karts. As long as its not snowing or
raining, we'll do some karting, no matter what the temperature.
If you have questions, let me know. If you have a project you'd like to
discuss, speak up, damnit.
