While I agree with what Burt says, I'll throw a little more onto the fire:
I've had the opportunity to watch about a decade's worth of the
Monterey Hysterics as a corner worker. I'm also a washed-up FF driver,
with Laguna as my "home" track, so I know the lines pretty well
(well ... well, let's just leave it at "pretty well" :-)
Every year I find myself appalled at how poorly the drivers of the
high-bux models comport themselves on the racing surface. Oh, they
have fine mannners, but they couldn't find the line with both hands.
You'd think that after they'd spent untold millions on the cars,
transporter, gear, team and pit babes, that they could throw a couple
of days and a couple of kilobucks at the Barber school to teach
them the way around the track.
There's a sub-species of this - the guys who are too timid/scared
to flog their cars hard. Which is OK - it's their money, and it's
about the show, not finishing position. I can't fault them much -
if they were driving a perfect line, albeit slowly.
