Y'all,
I've got Venolias and Deves in my current motor. I bought them used (but
new) from Matt Primack. The pin to crown height was incorrect for the motor
I was trying to build, as the block had been decked...so I ended up using a
really large volume head, and the pistons stood proud of the block 30 thou.
We machined the edges off at about a 45 degree angle to clear the head. I
didn't want to fly cut the head, thus making it even larger volume.
Normally., I build motors with pistons flush to the deck, so that all my
cylinder heads interchange.
It was my fear with that much piston above the block, I might have problems
with the top ring, but, so far, so good with 1.3 seasons of hard racing.

we are looking into a situation where the deeves/venolia's might have had
quality issues..
and with the potential lean situation, oil blowby, coking.....could have
been fatal.
