An old Wisconsin farmer built a pond on his back-forty for swimming and
picnicking.
One evening, not having been to the pond for a while, he decided to go down
and look things over. As he neared the pond, he heard voices, shouting and
laughter. As he came closer, he saw it was a bunch of young women skinny
dipping in his pond. But when they became aware of his presence, they all
retreated to the deep end of the pond.
One of the women shouted, "We're not coming out until you leave!"
The old man replied, "I'm not here to watch you women swim or make you get
out of the pond naked. I just came down to feed the alligator."
Moral: Old age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill.
Or, as British motoring author Laurence Pomeroy once put it, "The first
concept of superior principle will always be defeated by the perfected
example of established practice."
