Wasnt that Bananarama's song..
so there we were..i had just passed 4 sprites shortly after the green flag
on a cool, but DRY Sat. morning practice when...
POOF.. and poor tinkerbell let out a cloud of smoke, and started running
really rough,,, obviously missing a cylinder.. but still running.
we pulled it in... no holes or missing parts..
did a compression test.. 150 / 140 / 0 / 140....
ummm 0?
we pulled thew head to find a HOLE in the piston top.. but not just an
ordinary hole..it wasnt burnt, nor hit.. it stress collapsed..
as was #1 and #4 also about 100 revs away from doing also.
somewhere along the line, the special cosworth pistons i had bought, got
shaved/decked to a point where they couldnt take the pounding, even at
11.5-1
and i had no idea that this was the case..
Luckily enough (as far as we can tell) the block and other pieces look fine.
but a dissasembly and inspection will tell.
so we watched everyone else having the times of their lives from turn 5.
what a great weekend. there were some fantastic racing, all the way through
the pack. and some really beauuutiful sprites and others. John S was a very
intresting guest.
so time to stop my whining. and get right into work. its gonna be a looong
winter.
i gotta get some Good pistons, with the same pin/deck hieght as mine.
i am thinking sending the broken ones to Venolia...and have them keep the
outside Dim's the same, just beefing up the weak insides.
any other Vendor suggestions? any Ring Manuf. suggestions? Remember, this
is a "race" car so we are expecting to pay for quality..
we thought we did with the @#$% cosworths.
