Here are the guidelines for the 1ST ANNUAL LAWNCHAIR RACE which will be
held at the VARAC Vintage Racing Festival at Mosport
Lawn Chair Classic Race - Supplementary Rules and Regulations
The lawn chair race is to be run under the General Competition Rules
(GCRs) of the Association for Competitive Recliners and Adirondack
Chairs (Canada) (AssCRAC). It is open to all wheeled, castered, or
unwheeled seating apparatus in the following categories:
Class 1 ? Lawn chairs: 1(a) Resin Chassis 1(b) Aluminium
Chassis
Class 2 ? Homebuilts: 2(a) Muskoka Chairs 2(b) Adirondack Chairs
Class 3 ? Love Seats: 3(a) Chesterfields 3(b) Sofas
Class 4 ? Recliners: 4(a) Laz E Boys or Equivalent 4(b)
Fainting Couches
Class 5- Hovercraft: Any of the above, without wheels, carried
for competitive purposes with occupant(s)
Class 6- Formula Libre: Anything that can be sat upon and rolled or
carried with occupant(s)
For purposes of the GCR's, classes 1-6 shall be known collectively as
Apparatus for Speedy Seating (ASS)
Entry
Each entry may be made up of either: 1) a two person or more team; 2) a
one person entry with extra personnel; or 3) a one person entry with
extra personnel, some of whom dont show. Note: Single or multiple
person entries must be able to go the entire race distance without a
washroom break. Entries may be given a handicap deemed appropriate by
the Organizer.
Gridding
The starting grid, sequence or order will be determined by the
Organizer, and will be random.
Procedure
The competition shall be in three parts:
1) The Speed Trial: competitors shall push or carry their Apparatus for
Speedy Seating (ASS) through the prescribed course. Each ASS must be
fully occupied (no stacking). For example, a love seat (class 3) must
have two people on board ? although they dont have to like one another.
There will be a maximum of one pusher per occupant. Competitors must
complete the course and will be timed to the nearest unit decided upon
at the last moment. Time penalties will be added for spilling beverages,
tipping over, or getting splinters.
2) Personal hygiene, deportment, and the skill testing question
3) Concours judging (including appropriate dress)
Components (2) and(3) above will constitute the Best of Breed and Best
in Show portion of the competition and total points from components 2 &
3 may trump a winning time in component 1, ergo...the weak may inherit
the earth.
The winner shall be determined based on the following formula:
(C+A - Cq)/ 1/Cp X (Cn+O)/Ca X D/CoS X ER/Tr X 1/LT X 1/(SQ+Sp)
Where:
C = comfort
A = affinity of chair to entrant
Cn = condition
Cq = construction quality
Cp = number of cup holders and/or flowerpots
ER = environmental responsibility (time in landfill)
O = originality
CoS = colour and/or Sound
D = deportment
Tr = tire aspect ratio (selected randomly)
LT = Course time in some measured manner, units to be determined
SQ = Answer to skill testing question
Sp = Amount of spare change found under seat cushions, converted to
Canadian currency at rate determined by Brewers Retail at time of
competition.
The entrant with the largest score will be embarrassed and be declared
the winner, barring protests. Protests are not allowed.
Skill Testing Question:
If I were a car I would be a:
1) Trabant
2) Wartburg
3) Heinkel Kabinscooter
4) Goggomobile
5) Ferrari SuperAmerica
Answers may be in the form of True/False or essay. Extra points for
pronunciation.
The overall winner will be determined by the organizer after the
assessment of all penalties and handicaps, and the computation of the
Best in Show component of the competition.
Additional Regulations
NO fueling of your ASS is permitted in the pits. Team members may be
refueled as required.
All racing criteria, such as the start and flagging shall be as per
regulations which may or may not be issued to the competitors. There
will be a mandatory drivers meeting for competitors, at a time perhaps
to be announced.
The Lawn Chair Classic may be entered until the cows come home.
Registration shall be at the whim of nearly anybody.
