On behalf of the RCCSA, the crew of Southwind Racing, we wanted to say
thanks for the e-mails welcoming us to "the gene pool" (hope there's no
lifeguard on duty or we'll be thrown out for sure!) Due to this nasty
metal fatigue epidemic, the RCCSA will be spending the weekend doing what
we do best, keeping Bob(racer x)Kansa, his Sprite and Ginetta in peak
performance condition,
out of trouble, and looking good. The Gasket, resident Goddess of
Acquisition, got the low down on a product to dye check metal for cracks
and fractures. The stuff is called SpotCheck and is available from
Magnaflux ( phone: 847-657-5300) for $80 (US) plus shipping. The kit
contains:4 cans of cleaner, 2 cans of penetrant, 2 cans of developer,
cleaning cloths, a wire brush, and a complete set of instructions, all in a
stylish plastic carrying case (oohh, aahh). We also managed to finnagel a
free sample of another Magnaflux product called Zyglo that we're going to
experiment with, this stuff may work a little better, but must be used
under optimum glow-in-the-dark conditions. Fortunately, we have black
lights left over from Spikes birthday bash. So we'll check out this Zyglo
stuff in the Southwind barn, after dark, under blacklight, with some funky
disco music playing in the background, and let you all know how it works
out. We're not selling or promoting Magnaflux products, just sharing info.
We thought: "Hey, if this information can save just one car, our lives
will have been worth while." We're just that dedicated.
Best of luck to you all in checking your cracks,
