The best example of this I've seen is vintage sprint bikes, with vintage sprint
bikers (where Vinatge in the UK is 1930 or earlier). They have leathers with
fillets of newer leather let into the side to adjust for growth. Like rings in
a
tree section you can trace how long they have been competiting. A particularly
wide fillet implies a twenty year lay up for children and work, many very fine
fillets show continuous competition use.
I bought my race overalls (or rompers as my charming wife calls them as I hop in
the race car's baby seat) to fit with a chunky sweater and a heavy pair of jeans
on and still allow me to clamber into any fantasy car cockpit without a rip. The
only problem is that people want to borrow them as a tent.
