Team Thicko is being well represented at the 1998 Au Grattan Grand Prix,
Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Although missing the TT Flounder, his fledglings are holding up the flag.
Pitted in the "main" TT pits are Jim Donato(Sprite), Craig Bielat(Lotus),
Danny Neuhaus(Formcar), Gerry Brazil(Bugeye Sprite), Paul Fitzsimmons(Bugeye
Sprite), Chris Ducklow(Bugeye Sprite) Dave Scarlett(Chinook, representing
the Canadian contingent of TT), Rick Garolick(Porsche) and Gary
Speckman(Bugeye Sprite).
The TT pits have been the center of activity during the day and evening, as
per usual. Also as usual, our pits have become the great warehouse for
spare parts, not many cars running out there without a TT borrowed part this
weekend. Fortunately, "most" of the TT cars are running problem free. Paul
Fitzsimmons struggled all day Friday with his motor, replacing the fuel
pump, carb adjustments and about 14 different distributors/ignition systems.
Saturday the car was on the track, looking good.
Dave Scarlett, sorting out his Chinook(a Canadian "special", looks like an
open wheel Lotus, and VERY pretty) was having Carb problems Saturday, but we
think its good to go for Sunday(today).
Racing was GREAT! Jim and Gary put on quite a show in qualifying and the
Saturday afternoon race, changing the lead several times in both events.
Jim out qualified Gary by .050/second. He also squeaked out the victory in
the Saturday race. Jim took first in his class, as did Gary in his class.
With more than five Bugeyes/Sprites running, this a a GREAT showing for TT.
Lets hear it for the Team!
More to follow after Sundays events. Those of you not in attendance this
year are missed. Let's not let this happen again, hear?
later.....
