The car with flair (sic) is not the same car -- thats "Fluoro" - my racecar.
Actually Fluoro is now no longer the bright orange/white colour scheme, but
is now
"Mercedes Aqua Blue" with "Monza Red" trim. I've also replaced those bolt-on
flares with home-made flares I've glassed onto the bodywork. Much more
tasteful! I'll have to take a photo I guess...
BTW, has anyone else had a kingpin break? I had one shear off at the base
in the middle of qualifying at the annual 6 Hour relay race. It was the
outside front and collapsed in the middle of a 3rd gear off camber turn at
Winton.
The kingpin was only 5 meetings old!!! The fracture site showed a crack
growth to about 30% of diameter then plastic failure. I'd guess a machining
error that left a sharp edge at the end of the radius (from base to shaft).
It was an interesting ride! Over the ripple strip, into the sand trap. Bent
trunnion bolt, lever arm shock was ruined, rack was ripped off one mount,
stuffed the beautiful new flare on that side (1st time out!). I drove back
to
Melbourne that afternoon and returned with all the bits required to rebuild
the front end and race the next day. Lucky I had managed to complete my
required 10 laps of qualifying!
