My tale of woe from angle grinder use is when at the bench and not=20
noting the direction and distance the sparks were going. =C2=A0Straight bac=
k=20
towards me, stood in one spot next to the bench and wearing nylon/cotton=20
overall's. =C2=A0The upshot was that I set myself on fire. =C2=A0Concentrat=
ing on=20
the workpiece and with warmth from my stomach area only slowly getting=20
greater, my first distraction was smoke rising and masking my vision of=20
the work detail. =C2=A0I looked for the cause and saw clothing in the area=
=20
round my belly button on fire. =C2=A0No room on the bench to throw a quickl=
y=20
turned off grinder that was still rotating so I held onto that with one=20
hand and used my welding gloves encased left hand to pat my stomach. =C2=A0=
By=20
now I was in full panic mode and found myself trying to use my right=20
hand to put out the flames and pat the burning area with the still=20
rotating disc on the grinder. =C2=A0Thankfully I was able to resist that=20
after a very close encounter and the flames went out either because=20
their feeding source had ended or the glove patting worked - or both. =C2=
=A0I=20
wasn't burnt, clothing under my overalls saved me from that and even=20
though it happened decades ago it was a lesson still remembered.
=C2=A0
Best wishes to all

Only a fool uses an angle grinder without a guard and yesterday I was=20
that fool.
While I have several angle grinders, I need one more before I no longer=20
have to change the occasional disc from one type to another.=C2=A0 The usua=
l=20
dilemma is which grinder to change the disc on so that half an hour=20
later I=E2=80=99m not changing it back again.=C2=A0 I=E2=80=99d had a fairl=
y well used hard=20
disc on one grinder and had removed the guard to get into a tight spot=20
while working on the Sprite=E2=80=99s floor pan replacement.=C2=A0 I was no=
w=20
replacing the garage roof and needed a thin cutting disc to cut through=20
some old J bolts and other fixings and fitted a full-size brand-new thin=20
cutting disc. It wasn=E2=80=99t long before I cut through my glove and into=
 my=20
finger.=C2=A0 The cut isn=E2=80=99t very deep and I guess the gloves helped=
.=C2=A0 Of=20
course, I didn=E2=80=99t immediately put the guard back on it and had to ha=
ve a=20
near miss before I did.=C2=A0 I realised at that point it might not have ha=
d=20
the accident if I=E2=80=99d used a smaller disc.=C2=A0 So, I=E2=80=99m shar=
ing my stupidity=20
in the hope others won=E2=80=99t be the fool, albeit a =E2=80=98lucky=E2=80=
=99 fool that I was=20
yesterday and use a angle grinder without the guard.
