Jay,
This almost happened to me in one of my Vettes years ago. I was driving to
work on the freeway around 4.30 AM when I hit a large chunk of broken truck
tire rubber. When I got out of the car I saw small flames coming from
under my engine. I popped the hood and blew on the flames like it was my
last breath. For some reason I was able to put the fire out . . which was
being fed by oil leaking from my oil filter and area around the filter that
had been stripped out. It was a close call between ending up with my car
basically intact, or a fiberglass mess like the one in the pictures.
Thanks for pictures of what might have happened!
