Kurt, coming from you I'd take that and believe it at face value.
Fortunately I spent plenty of time in my youth covered in the stuff.
When you are around it all the time you can't smell it any more, because the
receptors in your nose are filled.
Once I fell into the "liquid" holding tank, the farmer had caught the grate
with his tractor and didn't put the grate back over the opening.
Also he had let it accumulate to over a foot deep over the tank so I had no
idea the hole was there and uncovered.
Walking out to chase a cow in for milking and down I went.
Those who know are aware that there is a large blade at the bottom of these
things that turns to keep the stuff from settling.
Think of it as a giant food processor, and I was heading for the bottom.
I managed to catch the lip of the hole with a hand, then pull myself back up
out.
Something I'll never forget. I was probably 12 or 13 at the time.
