Physics:
1 cc of ethanol has less calorific content than 1 cc of gasoline.
Real life:
I see a significant difference in my Civic, as does my #2 son in his twin-turbo
Z and my #4 son in his Mitsubishi.
We all keep good vehicle records.
The Civic averages 43.5 mpg on Ethanol-free vs 39.5 with 10%(?) Ethanol.
