It depends really how far away from the nearest cell tower you are. There are some directional antennas that can pickup a signal from pretty far away. Not sure what kind of internet connection you have, but there are devices called 'femtocells' that act like mini cell towers for your house, and send the calls over the Internet to your cell carrier.
