IIRC, the only way you'll be able to angle a rod to get some push behind it is
to drive it inwards. Although axles are not left handed or right handed, if
you have a choice for a replacement, get one from the same side as the one
you're replacing. Once they've been used, the splines take a set and break
easier if you swap them to the other side.
