So the part printed actually is a non working part but allow a visual model
to make sure everything fits as planned before production of a REAL board is
started right?

In my son's use, he designs a circuit board with all the necessary
components using a 3-D CAD type program [more big bucks]. The printer
prints, or 'builds', a duplicate based on specifications provided.
Believe me, what comes out if nothing short of amazing.
