Why just a puny little car power by compressed air? During the mining
days in the U.P. of Michigan there was a locomotive that pulled ore
that was run entirely on compressed air. And, get this, the
compressed air was FREE (once the infrastructure was built) and the
compressor had NO moving parts and over 80% efficiency. I'll bet you
guys don't believe this, do you? So, here's a web site to explain it.

Realistically, if you have to compress air for the little car
somewhere - on board or otherwise - it's not free and it's not clean
unless you have can find a Taylor Compressor.
