Early 1275s had a thinner flange around the oil pan mounting surface and
different casting than the later ones. The later ones are called "thick"
blocks. The thin ones are supposedly weaker, but I know of 2 full race motors
that are thin flange, one of which is now in it's 6th season with its 2nd owner
without any incident whatsoever in way.
